Welcome to BLATAM: our free Latin America travel resource.
This is a site for backpackers designed by backpackers!
As perpetual travelers we both (Dan + George) obsess over Latin America. So much so, that we keep jetting ourselves over here again and again.
The goal is to help people like you interested in traveling here find inspiration, and to also work out the means to do so in a more sustainable way.
Our most important principle here is authenticity. After our trip to Central America we noticed some of the content out there can be quite unfocused, misleading, or even duplicated, which can make for unrealistic expectations.
All our content is 100% from our own, unfiltered experience (because yes – the hard, disappointing, and downright explicit times are all part of the backpacking groove) and we wish to pass down our knowledge and wisdom.
Latin America is full of adventure and with our no non-sense guides to the continent we want to share everything with you to help you start exploring!

Because no good story ever starts from the middle… here’s a bit about us, how we came to love this continent and why we started this site.

After two close friends passed away (one after the other) I was left facing the toughest questions I’ve ever had to ask about my life and it’s purpose.
Later that year I decided to take a trip to Rio de Janeiro in Brazil and then later got invited to live with a family in Mexico to learn Spanish.
Since my debut trip to Brazil I have spent every year exploring the highs and lows of Latin America and want to share all that I have learned along the way.
What started off as a budget backpacking trip developed into my idea of ‘smart travel’ which encompasses a mix of cultural travel, going deeper into the realms of society and mingling with local people, customs and lifestyles.

From an early age, I’ve loved adventure. Things such as skiving school to get the highs of feeling like I’m on a real adventure got me into trouble as a kid.
Where bunking off school ended, travel started. I’ve traveled to over 30 countries, but South America (and Mexico in particular) stole my heart.
I want to share everything that I know and learned from my own raw experience in this beauty. I want to uncover the lesser-known gems and help others make their dream of travel here a reality.
Whilst I think a location by itself won’t guarantee an amazing experience, there’s definitely something in the air in Latin America. Many who travel here tend to find a lot more openness and risk within themselves.
